What Will Be My Birthday Perfume This Year?

My birthday is only two weeks away!  This is significant because it just dawned on me this morning that I haven't yet chosen my birthday perfume.

Usually, I obsess about this for months before my special day.  But I find myself smack in the middle of a perfume 'interlude.'

Nevertheless, the show must go on and I'm not about to break one of the few traditions of my own creation.

My nose, Daphne, would pout for weeks.

Due to the changing weather, colors and smells that September brings, I tend to seek birthday perfumes that possess depth and a touch of nostalgia.

Past choices include:

Black Aoud
Cabochard
Ambre Sultan
Narcisse Noir
Gris Clair
Knowing

Today, as I consider perfumes that interest me, the following list comes to mind:

Le Labo Rose 31
L'Artisan Dzongkha
Muscs Koublai Khan
Ineke's Field Notes From Paris
Ormonde Jayne Woman

Let the obsessing begin.

What perfumes represent early fall to you?

  1. My birthday is Aug. 31st, so I was just in the exact same boat as you, until I decided that I must finally have a full bottle of Guerlain Iris Ganache. With a helpful tip from a NY native, I found out that I could call Bergdorf's and they may have it (but it's not available online). I made the call the other day, and they had it, and it's on the way to me now. I did have a back up plan, however. It was going to be Mona di Orio Vanille, which is stupendous. I am Guerlain-obsessed, however, and it seemed only fitting I should have one.

Ormonde Woman is one of my very favorites year-round, that would be a lovely birthday perfume!

  2. Hi Carrie - fellow Virgo - thanks for the comment! I remember you mentioning Iris Ganache as a true perfume love. Glad you've made it your own. Ormonde Woman is definitely a contender, but I'm having strong Rose 31 cravings, too. A birthday perfume decision is near...

  3. Birthday Perfume! How lovely. It's pretty long wait for my own birthday, alas.

For me Yvresse by YSL represents early Fall, and another Fall perfume I found was um, should I be embarrassed? -- Like This with its pumpkin bread note.

I love your choices, but do not know many of them. Field Notes from Paris I do know and it's a lovely Fall perfume.

Let us know what you decided, please!

  4. a.k.a. Warum, welcome! I have not worn Yvresse, but may have to try it now. And there is no embarrassment in perfume - we like what we like. Fall is my favorite time of year and everything seems to smell better. I will report back on my choice - thanks for your comment!
